You have decided to embark on one of the most exciting journeys of your life. You have committed your time, energy and resources to becoming a successful entrepreneur. Negativity will be the first thing to hold you back if you do not grasp how to properly handle it.
This toxic element will paralyze your mind quicker than anything else and unless you choose to deal with it, the symptoms will only get worse. Now is not the time to be stuck in your own mind with your negative thoughts and emotions taking control.
At a very young age, I was diagnosed with a severe shrimp allergy. I quickly learned how vitally important it was not to touch, eat or come close to it in any sense. Unfortunately, at the time of my diagnosis, the doctor failed to inform me that I also have a severe allergy to negativity!
After experiencing the severe side effects for too many years, I decided to embark on the journey of finding a cure. I no longer wanted to live a life trapped in my own mind, surrounded by people, places and situations that were preventing forward momentum in my business and my life.
When you encounter negativity, it is important to take the following steps immediately:
- Recognize the situation and acknowledge that it exists. Negative thinking is often repetitive and reoccurring. It serves no purpose and creates negative emotions that limit our success. Negative thinking can take one of many forms. It can arrive as anxiety, regret, worry, criticism, guilt, not enough, etc.
- Realize it is time to take action. Once you identify that negativity has crept into your life, it is time to make a choice: continue down the dark path or implement a solution. It is easy to close your eyes and bury your head in the sand; however, this is only a temporary solution and will continue to compound the problem.
- Be confident that you have the cure and choose to consciously flip the switch. You are aware that the negativity has arrived; you are ready to take action and shift your mindset; now is the time to consciously flip the switch and deal with the emotion. By creating a heightened sense of awareness to your thought pattern, you are choosing to deal with the problem instead of ignoring it until it shows up again.
- Eliminate the root cause and dismiss the negative emotions. What caused the negative emotion? Was it a person, a comment, a situation, a reminder of the past? Whatever it is, you have developed a new sense of inner awareness and pinpointed the cause. Choose to appropriately deal with the thought now and move forward. Take as much time as necessary to process the emotion and then choose to dismiss the emotion from your mind.
- Move forward and avoid the root cause at all costs! When and if the root cause appears again, remember that you have already heightened your awareness, dealt with this situation and it has NO place in you mind. You have the power over your thoughts and emotions and do not have time to worry about a situation that you have already processed. If you are aware that a specific person, place or situation is causing negative emotions, avoid it at all costs!
Negative thinking can have a devastating impact on your life if you do not create an effective strategy for overcoming it. This method continues to work for me on a daily basis. I choose to raise my sense of awareness each time a negative emotion enters my mind. As a result, my life has been transformed and I am no longer deeply effected by my severe allergy to negativity!
